Lev and Yak's Drinking XI

28.9.08  Presentation Day
Well another year down for the Uni Whites Drinking XI. It wasn't a flash year and we didn't play many games, ending up with a mid table finish and a little battered and bruised.
A lot of the team from 2007 suffered by doing their best drinking at non-sanctioned events or generally outside the realm of the drinking XI selectors. There was also a certain disease spreading through the Whites, causing drinking numbers to wane. The disease is known as "kids" and can only be attributed to the beautiful wags that Uni Whites players somehow attract. Damn them all.
Our drinking XI for 2008 were the guys that showed up to all events and were regulars to the esky and the pub after a game. It is good to see a couple of new faces in the XI this year, but the selectors would like to see some of the young crowd push for selection next year. There is no-one better physically placed to drink more than they should than the youth and it's time the Uni White youth stepped up to the drinking penalty spot.
Our MVP for 2008 Dan Aiken has been a solid performer for many years. His performance at the pub on a Saturday afternoon was great (especially when he bought the selectors beer) and his official event form was as strong as anyone in the team. The day before his crowning as MVP spelled out what it takes to win the illustrious award.
The story starts with our MVP attending a Grand Final day soiree, where he was drunk by the first bounce. Reports have him dozing off drunkenly by half time and then at the hospital by full time receiving 16 stitches for a cut above his eye. We would give more details of the incident but the memory loss started well before our MVP found himself on the bathroom floor with blood pouring out from above his eye. Regardless of the ending, it is a fine example of the level of drinking required to take the coveted MVP mug for the 2009 season.
So please congratulate all the deserved drinkers for 2008 and strive for a spot in the squad for 2009. The selectors will be watching.
Inclusion in this Uni White team can only come as a result of 'Good Times'. Why wouldn't you want to be in it.

28.6.08  Past Players' Day
The Stadium of White was shifted to a temporary home for this magnificent event. The past players showed up in droves, the barbie was cranking all afternoon and the football was all entertainment.
In a throwback to the glory days of the Whites, it was the older statesman that shone on the drinking front and really put there hand up for selection in the most important team at the club. Quite fitting considering it was past players day. All the Kentish had to do was warm up the taps and the old faithful stepped up to the bar ready for the challenge.
Notable mentions for the evening go to Dan Aiken who went home and showered, pampered and sprayed before joining us at the pub (late). He did smell great though. Baxter didn't even take his shorts or socks off the entire evening, apart from his bad taste in jukebox selection he was in fine form off the pitch (as well as on it). Horse relived the glory years with an excellent session, as did Benny Barrett and Kyle.
The drinking X1 team listed below encompasses many past players who stuck around when the current batch went home. Even though more weight is given to current players by the selectors, this rule was relaxed for past players day. After all, the day was in honour of the guys that started the traditions of glamour that we enjoy today.
Lineup: Saf (C), Lev (VC), Joe, Dan A, Bax, Benn, Kyle, Graeme, Cam, Jason & Chris Pazios. Bench: Juan Livore, Paul K, Duffy & Crab
