Game 7: Uni Blacks 9 - 0 win

A harmless Uni Blacks side only distinguished themselves by the fact that later Uni White legend Leo Chandiok played for them. Leo was everywhere, running his heart out to prop up his fellow players, even accusing me of "diving" (I was pushed! Please!). Anyway, our excellent defence found themselves confronted with two strikers who posed little threat and hardly penetrated towards our box. The rain was pelting down and the muddy pitch was worthy of the Stadium of White. I got two, one a neat outside of the foot and the other a header. I think Eric got one and maybe Chris from a corner (neat deflection with the head), as well as the usual suspects (Frank, Alan, Edgar and possibly Joel).

Game 8: Uni Wanderers 6 - 1 win

In many games we scored quite early, putting the opposition on the back foot with our aggressive and direct play towards their goal. Especially our kick-offs mirrored this attitude. Someone would stand there with Edgar, tap it to him and he would have a shot from the half-way line. He never scored, or really threatened the keeper, but we didn't give a shit. Putting the ball away was what we had come to do and history shows we did it pretty well.

The first one here came from a great move, which a Blues defender tried to clear off the line, but I dived in for the tackle and deflected the ball into the net.

The last goal of the game came from our brilliant right midfielder Jan Pfitzner. It was a penalty and it was suggested Jan should take it. He stepped up like a young Andy Brehme and slotted the ball into the right bottom corner. The keeper guessed the direction, but the shot was too well placed. Goal!

Game 9: Old Ignatians 4 - 2 win

This was the most important win of the season and the toughest game. Old Iggys were second on the ladder and not far away from us and they meant business. Matters weren't helped when I headed a beautiful own goal from a corner into the top corner of the goal. Keeper Heysen Struger had no chance whatsoever. However, the troops rallied and we took on the fight.

Edgar scored two brilliant goals to make it 2 - 1. Bill had a few encouraging words at half-time and so did his dad and we ran out, hoping to put the game away.

However, then they pounced on a chance in the box and made it 2 - 2. From a blocked free kick one of their strikers tried to fire in a second attempt, I came off the wall to tackle and he almost took my leg off.

Our defence around Dennis were truly brilliant and though individual incidents are difficult to recall Struger, Roger, Chris, Chris P, Ray, Dennis and the defensive midfielders should take a lot of credit for this win.

In the end as legs grew weary, it looked like this one was heading for a draw, until Tim and Kon stood up. Tim scored the third with an incredible dribbling move through about three or four defenders , somehow hanging on to the ball and delivering it into the back of the net. The relief of the Nappi sanned ones was palpable.

Then, before Iggys had really recovered from their shock and tried to rally, Kon scored a breathtakingly wonderful goal. There was an interplay with Tim. He pretended to shoot and seemed to wrong-foot two defenders and the goal keeper with this move and then stroked the ball home (medium-height) into the net. Classy and backbreaking for the opposition.

The battle was won and the Whites were now truly in a league of their own, striding on towards the title.

Game 10: AGUA 9 - 2 win

Half-way point of the season and we were back to carving them up. This one is a bit of a blur. There was drizzle and sunshine. Around me everyone was performing brilliantly and I even got set up for an easy tap in.

A nice way to go into the break with a good lead on the ladder.
