For the final game of the season the C's took on bottom of the table Mount Barker at home on the wide expanses of the Metro Pitch.
Mount Barker had pushed us hard earlier in the season when we snuck home 4-2, so we weren't expecting things to be easy.
Not for the first time, Lev was required to make a number of changes, but this week it was because the C's were blessed with a number of players coming down from the B's.
Phillip, Jay and Simon all kitted up for us, after playing much of the season in the B's, whilst we also welcomed back Cam and Benny from absence and injury. Our bench was brimming with talent - as Marty, Long, Jose and Jonny were all ready to come on. We also welcomed back our Brazilian goal keeper 'Davé'... (I hope I pronounced that correctly...) after a few weeks out.
From the kick off, something beautiful happened... As the boys tapped it around as if we were Barcelona.. First the ball came back through the middle of the field and up the left wing, before swinging back through the midfield and defence along the right flank, where Wez released Kevin to run onto the ball and score in the first minute... Mount Barker had not even touched the ball! - magnificent!
The Whites continued in this manner for much of the first half, as we used the ball well, we were calm under pressure and really did play some attractive football. Mount Barker then were content to try to get us on the break or from set pieces and they did mount a number of good opportunities - 1 Matt (sorry... Davé) made an excellent save one on one, whilst Simon also put in a brilliant tackle to stop another opportunity.
We then managed to score a second, after another lovely piece of build up, this time Benny was the beneficiary. We did conspire to fluff a few chances also, as we put the ball over the bar, wide of the keeper and even straight at him a couple of times, but going into the break 2 nil up was a nice feeling.
The coach understandably was pretty happy with proceedings and so there were no changes at the break.
The second half started much as we'd left off in the first, with the Whites dominating possession and my only criticism may be that we got a little greedy as the game wore on. The third goal though again was lovely, as Jay released Wez on the right who smashed his shot from about 12 yards.
There was however 1 blip on what was otherwise a perfect day, as we conceded a goal from a corner as Mount Barker squirted one in and Wez' desperate attempt to clear wasn't quite enough.
We did have a bit more joy though, as Benny scored his second goal of the day and 5th for the C's to surge ahead as the C's top goal scorer! (ahead of Leo and Jan).
Marty, Jonny and Long all came on in the second half and each of them had an impact - Jonny's crossing was a feature!
The result 4-1 was justly deserved and a great way to end the season. Kevin and Jase as the holding midfielders were probably our best, but to be honest all the boys played well.
