Last game of the season. A courageous effort by all 14 players. A strong first half performance, Dylan hit the inside of the post, Sabbir had a good shot go wide but unfortunately we didn't capitalise on it. The second half again saw effort, but we tired considerably compared to our younger opponents. They would have been on average 10 years younger than us. They actually had some school-boys playing! They had several chances, and Josh had to produce 2 excellent saves to keep us in it.
We went 1-0 down to a scrappy goal, pulled it back with a quality team effort which ended with a cool finish to make it 1-1. They then got another scrappy goal, and we conceded at the end as we were trying to find an equaliser.
Strong defensive play by all concerned, and better battling by all of us. I was proud of our performance but perhaps we were 1 player short of what was needed to really take that game and win it.
Well done to all of you for your efforts this season. We have had ups and downs, too many players and too few players, and we have collectively produced what we can. Next season will be bright if we get a weekly core group of 12 players together as opposed to 6. We have some good young players coming through - Dylan, Alex, John, Jerome, Arbi and the ever-improving Josh. What we need more than anything though is the realisation of how good/bad we actually are. We need to recognise what we do wrong, and take steps to improve on this. This requires discipline. Do we have it?
I hope to see you all at the end-of-season-presentation on Saturday 14th October. Do check the uni whites website for details. We've worked hard this year and deserve an opportunity to wind down and crank it up!
Cheers lads
Leo.
